I had seen people who could
blink in and out between time, space, and existence before. But none of them really
had any control over it. A black man who lived in the park when I was young could
blink from one spot on a picnic bench to another. I would go to the park and the
man would be at his bench. I asked him to tell me a story and he would start jabbering
on about some far off adventure he had been a part of a long time ago, because
he used to be a solider. While he talked he would, suddenly and periodically,
blink out from one spot on the picnic bench and appear a split second later at
another. He never interrupted his speech due to blinking; he tried to ignore phenomenon
and I think that he was a little embarrassed by it. My father would blink in and
out while talking to me, usually if we were speaking of something important or
something that happened when he was young or if he was drunk. His blinking was
much less obvious than the old black man's, but he was much more open with it.
He would blink out during a conversation, appear across the room and stop talking
for a few seconds. Then he would either apologize profusely or continue talking.
